RSS Feeds, Link Popularity and One-way Link Building Strategies

The most effective link building strategies will utilize RSS Feeds to build your link popularity. RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication and is simply an easy way to mass distribute and publish material on the web. You can easily build RSS feeds into your blog that incorporate your links to blog pages.

Every time your feed is shown on another website it counts as another one-way link to your blog. You can use RSS building software to create RSS feed on your blog (RSS Builder is freeware), however many blogging platforms already have RSS feed capability built in. You just have to enable it. Once you have done this, you will be able to submit RSS feeds. Both Blogger.com and one of the most popular blogging scripts WordPress have this capability already no need for extra work.

RSS is a great way to syndicate your content all over the web. With RSS built into most of the popular blogging platforms it couldn’t be easier to build your link popularity, as each one of these links is a vote for your site. Just like elections vote count counts, the more votes and the higher the ranking of the linking sites the higher your link popularity value goes and the more traffic that comes with it.

Be Careful When Setting Your RSS or it Might Not Validate

When using the ever-popular WordPress blogging script you will find a multiple amount of plugins that will work with it. Of these one of the more important plugins for our discussion is the ones that make adding your RSS feed to peoples feed readers simple. One of the more popular ones is available from the website AddThis.com they make a plugin for there popular bookmarking and social networking announcement services.

A word about building blog titles though be careful in how you structure your post title. Many of these services have very strict validation criteria. Punctuation such as apostrophes, quotes, and many other non-alpha numeric characters mess with clean validation and these services will end up making adding your blogs RSS feed impossible, My MSN is famous for this while iGoogle and My Yahoo are a little more forgiving.

The problem here is when you have a title that naturally seems to need an apostrophe is a common one. A title like “President Bush’s New Budget Leaves Many Disappointed” this seems like an obvious natural title for the subject but will cause your blog title to be kicked out by the validator. Instead try something like this instead “The New Budget of the Bush Administration Leaves Many Disappointed.” The difference is subtle to the reader but will avoid any potential problems with it validating.

How to Effectively use a Blog Pinging Service

These simple one-way link-building strategies are possible by intelligently using a solid blog pinging service. Of course, you will need to write interesting and informative content and update your blog regularly for this strategy to work. However, if you provide good value to readers then blog pinging is a wonderful way to get the word out.

Now when looking for a pining service you are going to want to look for a few basic things. These are a couple of the key things, you want to be able to ping multiple sites from one service. This can save a lot of time over going to each site individually and pinging them at their own site. It is important that the service pings all of the following RSS feed directories, RSS aggregators, and blog search engines such as Technorati from one simple to use form.

A strategy we find gives us better return is to ping each site separately. This is not to much harder as your information will already be populated in the websites form so it is just a case of selecting a new service to ping and re-clicking the submit button. It doesn’t matter which service you pick find one you are happy with and use it regularly this is the key to making this strategy work. They all have their good and bad points so it is mostly a choice or preference to the site and the services it pings. One last word of caution do not think that multiple pinging is good this will get you labeled as a Spammer and get your IP and website band.
